If the samples shape the LIMS like the river shapes the valley, the central basic requirement for the further development of a laboratory is in place. We at AAC Infotray AG are working to ensure that data streams can flow freely and unhindered in the laboratory. A good LIMS must be able to keep up with the dynamics of the relation between laboratory and customer and reflect changes in the laboratory processes. Otherwise the further development of the company is hindered by the software. The most common reasons for changes in laboratory processes are the scaling ability of the number of samples, the introduction of new analytical methods and the integration of customers into laboratory processes. Limsophy is inspired by nature’s flexibility. This is why we chose a modular architecture for our software, which allows us to assemble exactly the modules required for further developing laboratory processes on a customer-specific basis.

Focus on Life Science

Limsophy RALIMS specifically offers a naturally adapted solution for Life Science: Unstructured research data (typical laboratory journal information) as well as structured data from sample analyses can be combined and searched together in one system. This allows accessing information and offers ideal conditions for generating knowledge from it. Limsophy LIMS offers a variety of automation options such as the use of labels, barcodes, microtiter plates incl. standard layouts or help in assigning open samples to existing plates. Furthermore, Limsophy increases data quality and facilitates traceability – providing the basis for Intellectual Properties (IP) Claims.

The development of new business concepts is in the DNA of Limsophy – experience the digital evolution first hand in Basel.

At the end of the year 2019, the COO of the Swiss laboratory Biolytix AG caught the new COVID virus. He volunteered to be the test subject and underwent all the tests himself. At the beginning of 2020, Biolytix, like many other laboratories, was caught up in the great Corona sample avalanche. A spirit of research and entrepreneurial foresight led Biolytix to focus intensively on the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 viruses. The researchers discovered that the saliva of test subjects in the early morning, of all body fluids, contains the highest concentration of viruses. With this knowledge, they developed and validated a detection method of SARS-CoV-2 viruses in saliva samples. The method to detect the viruses in the saliva has the advantage of being much more scalable as the sampling is done by the patients themselves. It does not require skilled personnel as it is the case with swab samples.

At the beginning of the pandemic, it quickly became clear that testing capacity was needed. In cooperation with the authorities, it was possible to set up a test center in Muttenz near Basel in a short time. In addition to the expansion of the premises into a laboratory, including cabling and IT infrastructure, PCR equipment and consumables also had to be procured – a project that represented an entrepreneurial masterpiece given the scarce availability of laboratory materials. At the beginning of the pandemic, the sample throughput was relatively modest with 500 samples per week. However, it increased to 50’000 samples per week in spring 2021. In parallel, the number of employees grew from 20 to 120. At the height of the pandemic, Biolytix’ sample throughput was an incredible 150’000 samples per week.

Biolytix has been working with the proven laboratory software Limsophy LIMS from AAC Infotray AG for many years. The enormous increase in sample throughput required an optimization of the digitalization of various company processes. «The project managers at AAC Infotray AG are all natural scientists», explains the COO, «they speak the same language as we do and know exactly how to adapt the software for us.» The basic prerequisite for the digitization of laboratory processes is the adaptability of the laboratory software. As a service laboratory, Biolytix is dedicated to offering its customers the best and most flexible solution. Due to the enormous increase in sample throughput, almost all company processes were affected. They could be digitized by the targeted expansion of modules, automations, adaptations of interfaces, suitable data input dialogs and evaluations by means of the laboratory software. Quality assurance has always been given the highest priority. Biolytix is particularly proud of the fact that the analysis results could always be delivered within 24 hours after receipt of the samples despite the immense avalanche of samples,. Data protection was taken into account with a suitable concept. The combination of software, laboratory and digitization expertise has created an ecosystem at the location in Muttenz that is ideally suited to handling the enormous avalanche of samples.

Katharina joined our project management team at AAC Infotray AG. She graduated from the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University with a degree in Safety, Health and Environmental Engineering, specializing in Radiation Protection. She first worked as a laboratory assistant at EnBW Nuclear Power in Philippsburg and then as a laboratory manager for radiation measurement technology and, for the last four years, she worked as a team leader for radiation measurement technology and dosimetry. One focus of her work was the maintenance and modernization of databases for the management of measuring instruments and test beams, especially the automation of processes for the transfer of measured values into an operations management system. EnBW being a customer of AAC Infotray AG has been working with Limsophy LIMS for several years. Katharina Rüger is a proven Limsophy professional. We are happy about this reinforcement and wish Katharina Rüger a lot of energetic Limsophy projects.

AAC Infotray gets reinforcement. We are pleased to welcome Bernadette Vogler to our project management team. Bernadette Vogler earned her Master of Science degree in Chemistry at the University of Zurich. She worked as a Research Associate at the department Environmental Chemistry of Eawag during the past 6 years. As a Research Associate, she used to work on research projects and programmed new automations, workflows and data evaluation in order to support the analysis of micropollutants in waterbodies. We wish Bernadette Vogler a good start and a lot of exciting digitization projects.

We are pleased to welcome Andreas Bayer, an experienced LIMS administrator, to our project management team. Andreas Bayer has a PhD in chemistry. He used to write his scientific papers on polymer chemistry, in Stuttgart with Professor Claus Dieter Eisenbach. He has 16 years of project management experience at EMS-CHEMIE, including an additional 12 years as a LIMS administrator. We are happy that our LIMS experience is enhanced and we wish Andreas a very good start at AAC Infotray AG.

Limsophy LIMS is the new key data management platform at the Institute for Hygiene and Environment (HU) in Hamburg. The HU organizes regular round robin tests at the federal level. Services laboratories use round robin tests to compare the values of their analyses to those values of other laboratories. All laboratories measure the same samples. Up to 300 laboratories take part in the field of Environmental Analysis. The laboratories record their participation data via a portal of the city of Hamburg. These data reach Limsophy via a web service interface and serve to organize the round robin tests. After the laboratories have received the samples, they determine the values and transfer the results into HU’s Limsophy. The institute evaluates the results. Limsophy automatically provides released reports and certificates to all participating laboratories. The processes of organizing round robin tests have been elegantly digitized with the support of Limsophy LIMS.

You can read the full report on the round robin tests in German here: Ringversuche HU

We are pleased to welcome Julia Gretzke, an experienced LIMS administrator, to our project management team. She will expand our pool of experience in the best way. Julia Gretzke is a biophysicist. She wrote her thesis with Professor Christiane Ziegler in Kaiserslautern on the adsorption of proteins and carbohydrates on dental surfaces. As a project manager, she will be responsible for implementing software projects for our customers. We wish Julia a successful work and many exciting Limsophy projects.

Water supply Zurich (WVZ) successfully uses Limsophy LIMS while searching for dangerous bacteria called Legionella Pneumophila in hot water circuits of buildings belonging to the city. These bacteria spread in stagnant water of shower hoses, bubble jets or air conditioners very quickly and can be the cause of serious lung diseases. The collected data are provided to the property managers of the city of Zurich by means of the web interface of Limsophy LIMS. There, the managers are able to download the sample reports and see Legionella concentrations on a city map. By providing the access for the property managers of the city of Zurich to the collected data of WVZ, Limsophy technology enables data flows across different departments. This approach to digitization perfectly supports the work processes of property managers and lab technicians.

Autumn is the season of the harvest – enjoy the fruits of digitization. We would like to show you how to digitize your processes in the laboratory at the ILMAC in Lausanne or at the LIMS Forum where we give the online presentation “Data handling using S3 storage saves time and money”. With the new storage possibility we are able to outsource large BLOB files such as images, spectra, sequence files or videos to an S3 compatible minio object storage. This reduces costs in case of backups of the database. This kind of data access is still controlled by authorizations and it is unrecognized by users.

We are able to show you this presentation and other pearls of the Limsophy world live in Lausanne or as part of a free telephone consultation.

Every vision is a journey. Every success starts with realizing this vision. We are delighted that we have been able to successfully realize our Limsophy vision, that started in 1999, on the market for 20 years now.

Due to the checksum of 20 being 2, we celebrated our anniversary twice. First, the three founders Köbi Ehrensberger, Koni Albrecht and Peter Nüesch were honored at a company meeting with a short speech and a warm applause. The tribute was sweetened with three Limsophy cakes which represented the three founders. The second memorable event took place at the Juckerfarm in Seegräben. The whole Limsophy staff including family members were invited. The Farm Olympics provided a lot of funny and exciting jubilee moments. The following dinner left nothing to be desired. A worthy celebration of our twenty-year success story.

We are looking forward to the next 20 years together with you, dear Limsophy customers! Thank you very much for your trust in us.

A quality product made of natural resources meeting the water purity requirements. We’re talking about perfect drinking water flowing out of every home’s water pipes. The drinking water quality in Switzerland is highly monitored by the water supply companies and cantonal authorities. In Germany, it is the same. The State laboratory Berlin-Brandenburg (LLBB) acts as examination service provider for the states Berlin and Brandenburg. Soil and air analyses are also performed by the LLBB. In order to optimize processes and make everyday work easier, the LLBB successfully completed an important digitization project. The state laboratory Berlin-Brandenburg chose the Swiss laboratory software Limsophy LIMS made by the company AAC Infotray AG from Winterthur when deciding on a sustainable technology platform. On January 10, 2019, the successful project completion was celebrated. A representative of the Swiss Embassy congratulated the representatives of the two project partners on their successful German-Swiss cooperation.

Congratulations to AAC Infotray AG were doubled, because, this year, the Swiss company is celebrating 20 years of expertise in the development of customized software solutions.
